The Northern Region is developing models
of ministry and structure that resonate with the variety of
demographic contexts within the northern and eastern suburbs of Perth.
These models include:
-
parishes and schools as a unified community of faith with clergy
working in teams across both the gathered congregation and the
school community
-
parishes selected to grow to congregations of over 300 adults
worshipping every Sunday
-
numerically small parishes embracing the model of Ministering
Communities in Mission
-
a co-operative venture with the Uniting Church that will enable
newly constructed shared facilities, and resourced ordained and
specialist ministries
-
a new area parish jointly funded by the developer and the local
Anglican Community School
-
a parish that has lay ministry teams supported by clergy who are
with the congregation only on Sundays
Major effective processes that have assisted the development of
these models include:
-
the work of a Ministry Development Officer (part-time)
-
the Regional Assemblies with their inspiring presentations
-
the vision of the Northern Region Council
-
the Appreciative Inquiry process, with subsequent development of
Ministry Teams
-
the studies written by the bishop, A
New Vision for our Church, and Discerning Leadership for a
Ministering Community
-
the self-mentoring group of the clergy involved in large
parishes
-
the use of mini-conferences on particular Ministry Themes to
raise vision and awareness
-
the restructuring of parish councils as the bearers of the
parish vision
